In the Philippines, if you wanted to buy yourself a cheap meal, you can visit a place called, "Karinderya" that sells various Filipino food. In Indonesia, they called those place as "Warung." One of the major difference between the two is that I prefer eating in Warung than in Karinderya because of health hazard. Karinderya is a place known for it not having a clean place so a lot of people got sick eating in those eatery. When I was still staying in Manila, we always get picky when choosing a Karinderya to order food from because of those rumors. On the other hand, the Warung we have visited is all safe. When we arrive and visited a Waring, I got a little bit scared that I might get sick from their food, but I'm glad that is not the case.
The price is cheap in these stores while providing a delicious meals. In one Warung that we went to, the store keeper is pretty sweet and friendly. After we leave, she even give me two pieces of coffee candy! However, not all Warung are the same. When Enthel and I looking a place to eat dinner, we went to this Warung that sells Rp 10,000 Ayam Bakar. When we ordered that one, we only got a piece of wing that is 95% bones.
Going back in discussing good Warung, if you attempt in visiting one I suggest to not expect in having free access to drinkable water. The good news is that you can buy any drink in most of the Warung such as coffee, tea, or any variant of milk drink. Also, in some cases, a Warung store offers two tables, where you can I either sit on a chair or floor (this is a normal custom in Indonesia). Lastly, expect the dishes to be spicy most of the time. A lot of Indonesian food are spicy and they sometimes put spice levels in their food. This is why Enthel is having a difficult time eating in Indonesia (She doesn't prefer spicy dishes).
